In the series of black-and-white photo collages from the 1980s “Phantom Limb,” objects such as cameras, binoculars, electric plugs, clocks, and televisions replace the limbs of technologically mutated women. The series foresees an imminent revolution in the merging of humans, interfaces, and machines. Biological Clock makes a visual pun on the ticking of the female reproductive system, and makes a parody of the idea that our devices should substitute a ‘lack’ – here a specifically feminine one.
