Acrylic on canvas
120 × 80 cm

Founded in 2011, the artist collective MAHKU (Huni Kuin Artist Movement) belongs to the indigenous Huni Kuin people living in the Amazon region of western Brazil. The Huni Kuin people have cultivated their way of life and cultural practices in harmony with the intricate ecosystems that have surrounded them for millennia. MAHKU’s detailed figurative works depict complex entanglements of humans, animals, and nature, narrating a cultural perspective rooted in mutual coexistence. Their artistic practice is generated collectively, just like the ritual chants of their ancestors that inspire their drawings, paintings, and sculptures.
