The ‘Cascades’ series of paintings continue Khan-Dossos’ exploration of the relationship between the digital realm and traditional Islamic techniques of geometry and pattern-making. Based on extensive research into online radicalisation and the social media practices of the Islamic State, Khan-Dossos re-interprets the caliphate’s Black Banner as a screen on which contemporary hopes and fears are projected, and through which they may potentially be re-calibrated.
