The Other Nefertiti is a sculpture based on the artists’ ‘open-sourcing’ of the Ancient Egyptian Nefertiti Bust, uncovered by German archaeologists in 1912 and currently housed in Berlin’s Neues Museum. Al-Badri and Nelles secretly acquired 3D scans of the treasured bust and released them into the public domain in 2015. The intervention critiqued colonial acquisition in relation to the production of global heritage and the contemporary display of cultural artefacts.
