Voluspa Jarpa 16th Cuenca Biennial

16th Cuenca Biennial

Voluspa Jarpa

Historical center of Cuenca, Ecuador

December 8 - March 8, 2024

The XVI edition of the Cuenca Biennial entitled “Quizá Mañana” is a large-format art expression that reflects on democracy and the conflicts of the present, with a special emphasis on Latin America. Curated by Ferran Barenblit.

“Art works in the space of the indeterminate, the imprecise, the incorrect. Through continuous questions, it renounces any will of indisputable truth. It requires complicities, passions and courage. It is situated between what is said and what is not said, in the idea that when something is said, it is possible that the exact opposite is meant. That is what gives it its excessive potential, the thought that anything can happen, maybe tomorrow”.

Ferran Barenblit, a renowned curator and museum director, has an extensive career. He has led three prestigious art institutions in the last twenty years; the Centro de Arte Santa Monica (Barcelona), the Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo (Móstoles) and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona. He currently lives in Ann Arbor, USA, where he is a visiting professor at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
