Resurrect is a cross-media project that critically examines militarism, imperialism, and the enduring legacy of colonial violence through the lens of artificial intelligence. The project reanimates historical mercenaries involved in the 1960s Congo conflicts—Bob Denard, Siegfried Müller, Jean Schramme, and Mike Hoare—using deep fake technology. In AI-generated videos, these figures speak in their original voices, offering fictionalized reflections based on extensive archival research. Cirio disseminated the videos online, infiltrating digital communities where these mercenaries are often mythologized. The project also draws parallels to ongoing violence in the Congo, still fueled by foreign interests and resource exploitation—highlighting the persistent consequences of colonialism in the age of artificial intelligence.
