Michael Hayden, 2015
Paolo Cirio

Acrylic paint on canvas
91 x 106 cm

For Overexposed, Cirio tracked down photographs and selfies of government officials in order to consider the aftermath of the Snowden affair and satirize an era of ubiquitous surveillance and over-mediated political personas. The works are produced via a specially developed HD stencil technique.  Michael Hayden was director of the NSA from 1999 to 2005, former Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and director of the CIA from 2006 to 2009. He oversaw the controversial surveillance of technological communications between ordinary citizens in the US and so-called terrorist groups, resulting in increased and warrantless surveillance.
