John Brennan, 2015
Paolo Cirio

Acrylic paint on photographic paper
124 x 144 cm
Photo: Gianmarco Bresadola

For Overexposed, Cirio tracked down photographs and selfies of government officials in order to consider the aftermath of the Snowden affair and satirize an era of ubiquitous surveillance and over-mediated political personas. The works are produced via a specially developed HD stencil technique.  John Brennan is the current director of the CIA, after his appointment by George Bush in 2001. He has presided over mass surveillance, the hacking of the global communication networks of allies, drone attacks, and the brutal torture of suspects without trial.
