David Petraeus, 2015
Paolo Cirio

Acrylic paint on photographic paper
91 x 106 cm

For Overexposed, Cirio tracked down photographs and selfies of government officials in order to consider the aftermath of the Snowden affair and satirize an era of ubiquitous surveillance and over-mediated political personas. The works are produced via a specially developed HD stencil technique.  David Petraeus was director of the CIA from 2011 to 2012, and took charge of multinational forces in Iraq in 2007. His downfall began when it was disclosed that he had leaked classified information to Paula Broadwell, his lover and biographer.
