Army of the Enslaved Flag is a series of textile created in conjunction with Scott’s large-scale performance Slave Rebellion Reenactment. The machine-sewn and hand-painted flags draw from West African symbolism and spiritual traditions to imagine the banners that might have been carried by the participants of the 1811 German Coast Uprising—the largest rebellion of enslaved people in U.S. history.
