Kateryna Lysovenko was born in 1989 in Kyiv. In 2014, she graduated from Odessa’s Grecov’s art college and in 2018 from National Academy of Fine Arts in Kyiv. In 2017-2016 she graduated in the course of contemporary art at Kyiv Academy of Media Arts, and in 2019—course from Method Fund. She lives and works in Kyiv.
Kateryna’s works reflect the dual role of painting: an element of resistance—and something akin to a case designed to hold shards of memory. Remembrance and the utopian act of resurrection seem fundamental and symbolic to the artist’s creative philosophy. Memory becomes a safe space, affording survival to people, places and ideas seeking shelter from evil, destruction, and oblivion.
