Alina Kopytsa was born as the daughter of a submarine sailor and grew up surrounded by the textiles, ribbons, buttons and the sewing machines of her mother, in Poliske, north of Kyiv. Her family was working in the textile industry for generations, and so it was natural that Alina transformed this family-tradition in her very own way. Alina graduated in 2006 from the National Technical University of Ukraine Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, the Faculty of Graphic Arts. In 2017 she continued her studies at the ZHdK, the University of Arts in Zurich, Switzerland, where she is graduating this year. She was a nominee of the MUHi (2012) Award and the PinchukArtCentre Prize (2013). Lives and works in Zürich, Switzerland.
