Kite

Deer hide, conductive thread, glass beads

136 x 86 cm

The embroidered deer hides by Kite translate dream fragments into Lakhota geometric compositions. Drawing from her research into Indigenous epistemologies and the ethics of artificial intelligence, Kite uses a Tajima embroidery machine and conductive threads to create interactive textile works—some of which function as tactile musical scores. In these embroidered hides meaning circulates through layered symbols, dreams, and nonhuman knowledge.
