Iconographies #43 Judith & Holofernes after Guercino, 2015

Iconographies transforms the classic theme of Judith & Holofernes, where biblical heroine Judith beheads the ruthless general Holofernes, before he can destroy her city. The tale has been interpreted in hundreds of historical paintings; this work translates that of Italian Baroque artist Guercino (17th century, oil on canvas)  into an abstract engraving on aluminum.
