P2P (Panda-to-Panda) (Bejing), 2015

Mixed media including shredded classified documents
45 x 25 x 20 cm
Project commissioned by Rhizome and the New Museum in New York

Toy pandas were stuffed with shredded Snowden papers and classified documents, as well as a digital SD memory card backup, and smuggled out of China — where “panda” is also a slang word for the secret police. The pandas were sent to figures including Snowden in Moscow and Assange at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, to form a literal peer-to-peer network of information distribution, [which also symbolically connected people in their work towards civil justice.]
