Compartment Syndrome (hanging in there), 2017
Jesse Darling

Grip bar, plastic bags, plastic tube, zip tie

Courtesy the artist and Chapter NY

Compartment Syndrome (hanging in there) mirrors the clinical forms of medical contexts, the coldness of the institution translated to clean minimalism. The sculpture is composed of metal grip bars, plastic tubing that trails like an IV drip, and the vest-like shape of several plastic bags. Originally made for the exhibition “Support Level” at Chapter NY, this series of sculptures makes apparent the fragility of bodies as shown through their material supports.
